Good to know before you apply
HOW TO APPLY
- Contact Southwark council markets team by email at streettrading@southwark.gov.uk, Subject line: The Blue Market Enquiry
- Add your contact details
- Write the product you wish to sell in the market
- Attach photos of your stall or a link to your social media showing your stall or products
- Indicate which days of the week you would like to trade
- If using electricity, list all the appliances you will be using in the stall and what watts each needs.
- Food traders using gas must have Gas Certificate
- Food traders should notify Southwark if they are registered in another borough or already have a food rating
Once your application has been received, the team will review it. If you are accepted, you will receive an invitation to register online and submit all the required documentation.
PITCH FEES
- There is an annual registration fee
- £20 pitch fee daily fee for casual traders
- £115 pitch weekly fee for casual traders
PITCH SIZES AND TYPES / FACILITIES
- 3 x 2 and 3 x 3 metres pitches available
- Pitches under wooden canopy (subject to availability)
- Access to electricity (3-pin adapter required must be provided by the trader)
- Access to washing up facilities with hot and cold water
- Regular free community events in the square organised by Blue Bermondsey BID and Big Local Works
TRADING DAYS AND OPENING HOURS
Our trading hours are Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5pm.
INFORMATION ABOUT PUBLIC LIABILITY INSURANCE (you must have insurance to trade with us)
Please remember you need to have Public Liability Insurance with a minimum 5m cover to trade with us. Traders with no insurance won’t be accepted.
The Blue Market do not endorse any insurance company, however we understand new traders may find it difficult and we put together a list of some of the insurance companies traders have suggested with different budgets and covers.
Disclaimer: Traders are responsible for finding the right insurance cover for their business needs.
DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED FOR ALL TRADERS
If your application is accepted, traders must upload copies of the following documents:
- Trader’s passport
- Proof of address (any of these below options)
- Two utility bills or
- One bank statement + one utility bill dated within the last 3 months or
- Council tax bill for the current tax year
- Proof of national insurance number
- Proof of your national insurance number
- Public Liability Insurance certificate for a minimum of 5 million
- One passport photo for the trader’s licence
If you would like to add an assistant they will also need
- Passport
- Utility bill or bank statement dated within the last 3 months
- Proof of national insurance number
- One passport photo
ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED FOR FOOD TRADERS
- Food Hygiene Certificate level 2 for anyone preparing food or drinks in the stall
- Food Premises Registration from your Council OR Food Rating (if you already have it)
- Gas safety certificate if applicable (including expiring date)

REGISTRATION AS FOOD BUSINESS
We accept food businesses registered in other boroughs. If you are not registered with any council and want to sell food or drink in Southwark, you need to register your food business. Registering your food business is a free and simple process.
